Broke Wrist After Slamming Into Wall. Unable To Bend Thumb Knuckle Even After Removing All The Hardware That Were Placed. Permanent Damage?
Broke my wrist (displaced all carpals & broke into 10 pieces) by running into cement wall w/ wrist extended. Had surgery (w nerve block) 10 mths ago: 9 pins/3 screws/plate. Went thru therapy; no movement in thumb knuckle joint at all for 6 months. Tiny bit came back (a bit more each month). Had hardware removed 3 weeks ago. A bit more movement returned but still cannot bend thumb knuckle joint more than about 15 degrees. Have worked like crazy to bring it back including mental imagery, tons of strengthening, gripping, flexing etc. Think there is any hope of regaining full capacity? Dr says it's either nerve damage from block; auto-immune??? what?; or ? Any ideas are greatly appreciated - I'm still very athletic (miss my thumb).
HI Thank for asking to HCMI I can understand your problem. it may not be the reason as given to you but the chances of damage to the tendons are just likely, If I would be your doctor then I would send you for physiotherapy, if it gives some promising result then we would continue it otherwise the tendon injury will be suspicious, hope this will help you in taking decision have nice day.
