Broken Big Toe, Sharp Pain, Swollen. Any Better Method Than The Usage Of Boot?
I broke my big toe four days ago tripping over a table leg. The doctor had to pull the bones back into place and its been sort of feeling better on day 2 of this trauma. Today though, it s been all tingly and feels like I have pins and needles and the toe feels like it wants to move but I keep trying to keep it still cus I know if it moves it ll hurt like crazy. Even the toes near my broken big toe feel kind of tingly too and they re not broken. Sometimes there s a sharp stabbing jolt of pain in the tingles. Is this normal for a broken toe bone? Is there a better method of support for it other than the clunky boot they gave me to wear? When does the swelling go down? Its swollen on the underside of my toe so that when I wear the boot it pushes on the swollen bit and hurts more.
Its a normal reaction to have tingling feeling in the surrounding areas of a fractured foot bone.
I think that "boot" is a better way of immobilizing the fractured toe.
swelling usually takes around 1-2 weeks to resolve completely. You are advised to keep the foot end in elevation most of the time in a day, so as to allow the swelling to come down.
From the information you have provided, i understand you sustained a fracture. The current treatment is the best indicated in this condition. Immobilizing the leg alongside pain medications and anti inflammatory drugs are generally enough to control the swelling, pain and permit healing. However, you would need to put on this boot for a long time so that healing can be rapid and complete.
Swelling generally get relieved within a few days after starting treatment. Talk to your doctor to make sure you have got good pain medications and anti inflammatory drugs to control the symptoms.
Please, just stay on your current treatment and ask for symptoms relieve if swelling and pain remains a problem. I wish you a speedy recovery and the best of health. Feel free to return and ask for more answers if any worries should resurface. Thanks Dr. Ditah, MD
1- actually it is not normal to have tingling in your toes after this injury in your toe. 2- other way is to tape big toe to next toe so they can move together and the 2nd toe will act as splint to the big toe. 3- keep foot elevated to help swelling
if you happy with my answer give me 5 stars and a thank you from you will be appreciated
best wishes
