Brown Discharge From Vagina. Culture Test Shows Overgrowth Of E-coli In Vagina. Treatment?
Hello, I'm 29 and had a baby 2.5 years ago. After that I started having air coming out of vagina and brown discharge. The ob doctors couldn't figure out the reason for discharge and said it was hormonal. A year later later I got pregnant again but had a missed miscariage. After D&C was performed I got an infection which was treated with antibiotics. My symptoms got worse. Finally a week ago (a year after misscariage) my ob doctor did a culture and found an extreme overgrowth of e-coli bacteria in vagina. Could that be a fistula? My doctor said he is unsure about whoch tests I need to do and promissed to call back but I haven't heard from h im for 3 days now and I simply don't know where to go next. Please help!
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Two things , you mentioned in your query that before miscarriage there was air coming out from vagina ( this indicates a fistula in rectum or anal canal in vaginal wall). D & C done , they may have not noticed. Extreme overgrowth of E coli may due due to so may reasons , not necessary. So physical examination by a surgeon will find out fistula , if any. Consultation with a Gynaecologist will also helpful. E coli have many strains so please mention which type of strain , present. Hope I have answered your question. If further any question I will help. Good luck. Dr. HET
