Hello and I hope I can help you today,
I am trying to make sure that I understand your question correctly, in that you have never had a menstrual period yet? I do not know how old you are, but if you are a teenager, asking this question- here is my advice below:
Congratulations! You just started your period! Blood from
menstruation is usually very dark and mixed with mucus, it looks different from the bright red blood like when you cut yourself. It usually starts out brownish then purple mixed with it. It may turn red when your flow is heavier, in a few days. You may start having abdominal cramping as well. It should not smell unless it sits for a while on a pad exposed to the air.
If I misunderstood and you normally menstruate and are just having this discharge at a time your period isn't yet due, I would just wait and see what happens. If the discharge (which is likely blood mixed with mucus) continues more than a week, you may have just had an irregular period and next month your cycle will likely become normal again. If you continue to have bleeding in between your periods, you should seek an evaluation by a GYN doctor. They can do hormone tests and an evaluation without an internal examination.
I hope I understood you correctly and was able to answer your question and that my advice was reassuring. Best wishes, Dr. Brown
