Bruise On Throat, Started With Stiff Neck, Difficult To Swallow. Strep Negative. Treatment ?
I have a bruise on my throat. It started out as a stiff neck , then a sore throat about 7 days ago. I went to the doctor and took a strep test and it was negative. On day 4, my sore throat was feeling better, but the bruise appear near my thyroid ( right in front of my neck where I swallow ). I went to a doctor on day 7, he looked down my throat and saw nothing, but the bruise is still there and I am starting to have a hard time swallowing . What type of doctor should I see?

Bruise On Throat, Started With Stiff Neck, Difficult To Swallow. Strep Negative. Treatment ?
Hi there. Thanks for writing in. The possibilities I can think of are upper respiratory infection, thyroid disorder, GERD or anxiety. Any history of trauma to the neck. Feeling of difficulty in swallowing can occur due to any of the above mentioned causes. You could see an ENT doctor/gastroenterologist , if this problem of swallowing does not get better. In the meantime , have plenty of warm fluids to drink . Try warm saline gargles 3 times a day. Hope this helps. Regards, Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
