Bruising And Swelling In The Thigh Due To Injury. How Long Will It Take To Recover?

I fell off my bike two weeks ago and banged my left thigh. Huge bruising which has almost subsided but still have protrusion the size of half grapefruit on thigh. Spongy but does not hurt. Has not reduced in size since it appeared immediately after fall. No pain walking.
The bulge Is obvious when I wear pants.
Doctor said to ice it and take Tylanol. How long will this last line this and is there anything g I should be doing?

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

it is likely that the bulge you have is a hematoma
A hematoma is a collection of blood inside the body.

Hematoma is re-absorped slowly by the body and the
duration depends on the size of the hematoma an could
take several weeks.

In a few instances, the re-absorption could be complicated
and the hematoma becomes calcified in which case the mass
stays permanently.

However, it is possible to carry out a small surgery where by
a small incision is done to drain the hematoma.

Hope this helps you.
Best regards
Dr Achuo
