Burning Sensation In Nostril, Headache When Bending. Taking Anti-histamines. What Is This?

Hi I get a burning sensation in my left nostril and bad headaches over my right eye and occasionaly across my forehead when i bend my head forward i have been takin anti histamins, paracetomol and ibuprofen. I do not smoke and have never used drugs what could this be? I am flying out of the UK on holiday Saturday and am worried that the pressure changes on the plane are going to cause me trouble.

Hi,

Headache across forehead and eye that increases on bending forward are likely symptoms of sinusitis. These are connected to the nostrils through small openings called the ostia which when blocked (due to several reasons, allergy and swelling being a common one) can lead to infection and pain. All causes leading to frequent sinusitis will have to be ruled out first. An imaging study of the sinuses will be useful.
Consult an ENT surgeon and get a detailed examination for appropriate treatment.

Hope this helps,
Dr A. Rao
