Bursted Lump On The Knee, Fever, Body Ache. Negative For Influenza. Low Neutrophils. What Could Be Wrong?

my husband had a lump on his knee for years, and we never knew what it was. A few weeks ago it burst and he had a fever chills and body aches for 4 days. Fever 102 and eventually it would break when he sweat it out. We went to the doctor and was tested for influenza A and B. (negative) CBC- normal except what i though was strange was one of his WBC were down. I think neutrophils.

Hello,
Thanks for the query.

He might have developed abscess.

These are deep bacterial infections.

Treatment is with antibiotics.

The choice of antibiotics should be based on culture and sensitivity test on the puss obtained.

Please meet a dermatologist for exact diagnosis.
