How can the patients will survive if the results of the CT scan are following remarks: 1. Bleed, pons/cerebellar peduncles and left superior with mass associated mass effect 2. Subarachnoid hemorrhage, basal cisterns 3. Severe non-communicating hydocephalus 4. Multiple lacunar infarcts of varying ages, basal bilateral 4. Cerebral atrophy....He is now at ICU... Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, The CT scan report of the brain is quite worrisome. There is bleeding in the pons and cerebellum and the mass effect is due to hematoma most probably. There is sub-arachanoid hemorrhage i.e. accumulation of blood in the sub-arachanoid space. There is increased accumulation of CSF in the ventricles of the brain. Probably the mass is obstructing the flow of CSF from ventricles and the sub-arachanoid space. There are multiple infarcts in the basal cisterns and atrophy of the cerebral hemispheres.
There is urgent need to control the bleed which has occured in the sub-arachanoid space, basal cisterns and cerebellum. The hydrocephalus has to be corrected immediately. Long standing hydrocephalus can damage the cerebrum and affect the higher functions. The further prognosis depends on the basic cause of all these changes in the brain. Consult your neurosurgeon for management and further prognosis.
