Can ACE Inhibitors Be Taken With Amilorde?

CR on Health reports that it can be risky to take ACE Inhibitors with Amilorde or triamterene due to high levels of Potassioum in the blood. I take Amolopipine besylate and have a higher than desired level of Poassium. Does this fall into one of those categories?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Both ACE inhibitors and Amiloride do increase potassium levels so it might be dangerous to combine them both. On the other hand, because you already have high potassium, taking them together may make things worse.

High potassium may affect the heart and cause irregular rhythm and in some cases, even heart arrest so, please follow the instructions of the doctor and use medications as they recommend.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician.
