Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband recently started taking adderall. He sought medical help for possible depression (and increased in alcohol consumption). His understanding was that the psychiatrist felt it was more of an adult ADD than depression as he prescribed adderall. My questions are: 1) does adderall have other uses and could've prescribed for depression or is it add. The doctor was so vague and kind of said, "try it and see". My husbNd is not at all medically- minded so he doesn't question much. He takes Coreg for his heart and atorvastatin and I'm a little concerned of mixing. Also, he said his urine is orange and he is drinking same as usual (approx 50-64 oz per day) thx!!
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Your husband is suffering from depression and has been prescribed Adderall for that. Adderall is amphetamine drug which is a stimulant drug. The drug is commonly used in patients of attention deficit disorders (ADD) but it is also used in a lot of other disorders. In patients of depression with poor concentration, poor motivation some psychiatrist choose to prescribe the drug. The drug can help to improve the symptoms of depression like reduced day time activity, lack of motivation and will also reduce the drowsiness in day time. Though it is not a drug of choice for depression.
The drug can be taken with Atorvastatin as there are not much significant drug interactions. He can take the drugs as per prescription without any significant risk. Try to make him agree to stop using alcohol as this would worsen the symptoms of depression and will also reduce the effectiveness of medicines.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Visit his psychiatrist for detailed help.
