Can Aleve Be Taken After Having A Open Heart Surgery?
I have heard that Aleve is not good for the heart if the person has had open heart surgery. I had No heart attack and no heart disease just a single bypass due to blockage of arterie feeding backside of heart. Had done in 1999 , no problems since. Is it safe to take aleve as directed on bottle otc which is twice a day
It is not advisable to take aleve after having heart surgery. Aleve is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug commonly used to treat painful conditions such as arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps.
It may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events including myocardial infarction and stroke, which can be fatal.
Since you already have had a single bypass surgery, you may be at a higher risk of developing thrombotic events as mentioned above. Hence avoid taking aleve. I would suggest you to take an pain reliever like paracetamol which is quite safe.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
