Can Allopurinol Be Taken While On Blood Thinners?

My mother takes waffarin and her doctor prescribed allopurinol. I am reading it interacts with blood thinners. Should she take it? She also takes colchicine, fluvastatin, furosemide, a 81 mg aspirin, klorcon, carbonyl iron, flonase, tramadole, multi vitamin and vitamin D. I feel like allopurinol may be a problem for her. She will be 84 in August.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right. Allopurinol can interact with blood thinners and reduce their therapeutic effects.
So better to avoid allopurinol.
Allopurinol is given for hyperuricemia. Febuxostat is another newer drug for hyperuricemia which safe and not having any drug interactions.
So ask your doctor about starting febuxostat instead of allopurinol.
Hope I have solved your query. I will I will be happy to help. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
