Hello,

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant with sedative effects. It is used to treat the symptoms of depression. You can take the medicine prescribed by your treating doctor as per instruction. Promethazine is a phenothiazines and also acts like an antihistamine. Promethazine is used to treat allergy symptoms like itching, runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, hives, and itchy skin rashes.

Since you have not mentioned any of allergy symptoms here, you may not take it. Amitriptyline already has sedative effects. Do not take promethazine as it will also cause sedation. You are advised to get connected to a counsellor, group therapy, talk therapy, massage therapy, CBT will help you manage stress and anxiety. Do regular exercises, running and jogging. Take home-made balanced food. Do not skip meals so that your electrolyte level is maintained.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
