Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have ibs c and reoccurring symptoms of uti, four times in last two years with urine always coming back negative.i also suffer anxiety I visited new dr who wants me to stop Clonazepam and instead prescribed linzess and amitriptyline hcl. I do have 4 oz wine daily and really do not want to omit completely. I am also concerned of the horrible side effects on literature for amitriptyline hc.as I am not suffering from depression. DR feels I may have interstitial cystitis and the amitriptyline hcl might solve this. My question to you is can I possibly have an occasional 4z of wine and your experience with the amitriptyline
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Amitriptyline is an tricyclic antidepressant. Moderate interaction has been noted with use of Amitryptline along with alcohol. Using amitriptyline together with ethanol can alter the effects of amitriptyline and cause increased side effects. It can cause dreadful side effects like irregular heartbeats, extreme drowsiness, confusion, agitation, vomiting, blurred vision, sweating, muscle stiffness and seizures. Hence, you should avoid intake of alcohol along with amitriptyline. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
