Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Amlodipine Cause A Significant Drop In Blood Pressure, And Is It Normal For It To Remain Low After Stopping The Medication?
I am an 86 year old man and take blood pressure medication. My blood pressure rocketed to the high 190. I then started to take Amlodipine as adviced by heart dept at the hospital. My bb has dropped to a worrying 100. I stopped taking this medication several days ago, but my bb is still just over 100
It is important performing some tests in order to investigate on the possible causes underlying your drop in blood pressure values (possible anemia). It is less likely that such drop is related to amlodipine, as after stopping the drug, blood pressure would raise. For this reason, I recommend checking complete blood count, thyroid hormone levels and blood electrolytes.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
