Hi & Welcome.
Yes,
Amlodipine can cause
acid reflux disease.
When you swallow food the lower esophageal sphincter, a circular band of muscle around the bottom part of your
esophagus (food pipe) relaxes to allow food and liquid to flow down into your stomach. Then it closes again.
However, if this valve relaxes abnormally or weakens, stomach acid can flow back up into your esophagus, causing frequent
heartburn resulting in GERD (
gastro esophageal reflux disease)
Certain medications like calcium channel blockers (Amlodipine) can increase the acid reflux by relaxing the lower esophageal sphincter thus worsen GERD.
I therefore advise you to consult your treating physician to adjust the dose of Lisinopril/Hydrochlorozide or to prescribe an alternate medication to lower the
high BP.
Beside you need to follow certain lifestyle changes to prevent acid reflux like
1. Avoid tight-fitting clothing.
2. Avoid foods and drinks that trigger heartburn such as fatty or fried foods, tomato sauce, alcohol, chocolate, mint, garlic, onion, and caffeine may make heartburn worse.
3. Eat smaller meals. Avoid overeating by eating smaller meals.
4. Don't lie down after a meal. Wait at least three hours after eating before lying down or going to bed.
5. Elevate the head of your bed. If you regularly experience heartburn at night or while trying to sleep, put gravity to work for you. Place wood or cement blocks under the feet of your bed so that the head end is raised by 6 to 9 inches.
6. Don't smoke.
Smoking decreases the lower esophageal sphincter's ability to function properly.
Hope the suggestions given above would be useful.
