Can Amlodopine Be Taken For Enlarged Left Ventricular?

hi, thanks for helping people. My brother is 72, his height is 5 feet 4 inch and 56 kilo weight, and have left ventricular hyper trophy , his doctor stopped amlodopine and started on 80 mg telmisartan, he takes imdur also. Since he has history of angina , i think he should take telmisartan 40 mg and 2.5 mg of amlodopine. Can he take amlodopine if he has left ventricular enlarged. i think so small dose will not hurt him. Does arb dialate caronary arteries too.

HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

Understand this , your brother is having Left ventricular hypertrophy due to uncontrolled Blood pressure . If his blood pressure is controlled by any medicines some percentage of hypertrophy will become normal.

But complete resolution to normal is doubtful with Blood pressure control . But ARB (Telmisartan ) in addition to bringing Blood pressure down has additional property in cardiac remodeling means it helps the heart going back to its previous shape and size.

Giving Amlodipine will not harm but will not help from Hypertrophy point of view . If he was my patient I would have recommended Only telmisartan but there is no harm in giving both.

Hope this information is useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.
