Can Amoxicillin, Benadryl And Advil Be Given Together To Infant?

We had a prescription prescribed from doctor for amoxicillin for our 18month old for ear infection. He us been running a fever of 101 to 103.5. My question is this, is it ok to give him the amoxicillin, Benadryl, and Advil at the same time? We gave him the amoxicillin and Benadryl before bed but fever is now rising and need to give more Advil. Please advise

Hi,

Amoxicillin is a safe drug in the children of all ages until some specific known allergy is present. Benadryl is also given to children over 1 years of age and Advil is also prescribed. Amoxicillin plays a role of antibiotic, Benadryl is given for reducing inflammation and Advil is given for fever and pain. Advil can sometime cause gastritis so proton pump inhibitor like Lansoprazole should also be prescribed.

Amoxicillin is given as 25mg/kg/dose. Benadryl 2.5-3ml will be adequate. Advil is given 10mg/kg/dose. Lansoprazole can be given 2mg/kg on empty stomach. If the fever is increasing and the child becomes irritable then, there will be increasing and progressive infection. In such a situation, ENT surgeon may be contacted.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
