Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on Atenonol 50mg once a day for 15yrs so when I tried increasing it to 75mg it hit me hard and I am now extremely Fearful that this New Script I’ve been prescribed Lisinopril 5mg will hit me just as hard plus Ive Always has the added fear of an allergic reaction to any New medication I take so this does not help with the process either
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Allergic reactions to these drugs are not frequent so this is not a good enough reason to reject them. Atenolol may cause both hypotension and bradycardia. Bradycardia is usually more feared than hypotension. You haven't explained your symptoms after increasing Atenolol dosage, so I can't say whether they can be related to the drug or not.
Lisinopril may cause hypotension but a patient with hypertension is not very likely to experience such an extreme effect. In most cases the patients do well with those drugs both individually and as a combination. Since your doctor prescribed them for a reason, you'd better discuss this matter with him before taking any decisions.
I hope you find my comments helpful! Please get back to me if you'd like any clarification or more information.
Kind Regards!
