Can Atenolol Be Taken For Elevated Blood Pressure Level?
Hi,I was on .50 mg of Atenolol for about 10 years...then just this past year I went down to .25 mg around June 2016...and then completely off it in August of 2016. My doctor wanted me to get off it because I was getting great readings of 115/70 on average. But for the past few months everytime i check my BP it s high...I was wondering if it s ok if I just start taking it again?i have plenty left still.
I am not sure of your BP readings, but if it mildly elevated around 140/90 mm Hg, then may be 25 mg Atenolol would be sufficient. If it is higher than 150-160/90-100 mm Hg then maybe you could start at 50 mg.
Recheck your BP and pulse rate in 10 days’ time. If BP is still high then you could increase the dose further. If you are feeling light headed, tired, low pulse (less than 50-55) and very low BP (less than 100/65), then you have to reduce the dose of the Atenolol.
I hope this answer has been helpful to you.
