Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Azithromycin, Ondansetron And Amitriptyline Be Taken Together?
I am an RN and do home care. I care for a 12 year old child that have numerous problems. Blind, deaf, he has a deteriorating muscle and nerve disease. Several genetic tests have been done although it has not been determined as to what disease process it is. He has had increased problems with his bowel function. Days that he won t eat, vomiting at times and obvious pain. He is not able to tell us where the pain is but we are assuming it is in the gastric system somewhere. He was recently started on cyrohepatadine. I have read that it recommended not to give with several meds. The three I am concerned about are azithromycin, ondansadron and amitriptyline. Patient is on all three of these meds. What are your thoughts
Ondansetron can be taken safely with Azithromycin or Amitriptyline drug. However, Azithromycin and Amitriptyline should be taken together cautiously, as there is risk of abnormal heart rhythms.
If these two medications are used together, then monitor pulse closely and symptoms of palpitation (like fast heartbeat, chest tightness, shortness of breath, dizziness, and hypotension).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
