Can Bacitracin Be Applied Around A Mic-Key Feeding Tube Insertion Area?

My son has a mickey GJ and we ran out of cream before his supplies came in, Can I use bacitracin on the area for now? I'm using polymem over it but we are so used to using EPC on it. He's never had granulation and I really want to make sure he never gets it. My son 33 months old.

It is very nice to hear that your son never had granulation. That is a very good care taken.

MIC KEY GJ tubes are used to provide a means of accessing the stomach and jejunum to provide nourishment, liquids, medication and decompression. But it has some disadvantages as seen in your case. So we should always be careful.

Polymem is only option in this situations. Bacitracin zinc salt, in combination with other topical antibiotics polymyxin B and neomycin). It is a good ointment and good antibacterial. You can apply Bacitracin only around the tube and care should be taken that it do not enter inside.
