Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, Im having a terrible allergic reaction to my roommates dog. I left our house and am saying with my mom until it calms down. I took a codeine pill to help my headache and calm me down. but I ve been told to take a benadryl for the allergy symptoms. Is this dangerous?
Yes, it can be taken for allergy symptoms. It is not dangerous. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine commonly used to treat runny nose, watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other cold or allergy symptoms.
But avoid taking it along with codeine, because it may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, impaired concentration and motor coordination.
You should avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or swimming.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
