Can Benadryl Be Taken For Insomnia?

I’m an college athlete and always drink a monster before a game, as I did tonight. And I have also been taking Benadryl often from 75-100mg as a sleeping aid because I feel as if I can’t go to sleep on my own. Is what I am doing safe or ok for me to do?

hi.. Benadryl(diphenhydramine) is antihistaminic group of drug.
Uses
Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever, and the common cold. These symptoms include rash, itching, watery eyes, itchy eyes/nose/throat, cough, runny nose, and sneezing. It is also used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Diphenhydramine can also be used to help you relax and FALL AS SLEEP.

Side Effects are insignificant:
Drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, stomach upset, blurred vision, or dry mouth/nose/throat may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
