Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 14 year old daughter has mild asthma that comes mostly during the winter time. She is prescribed Singulair, and Flovent when it gets a little worse or she starts a cough. The Flovent is $150 out of pocket and I don t really notice it making much of a difference and she only gets a light wheeze here and there. The pharmacist suggested taking Allegra nightly for about a month when she gets a little wheezy along with her daily Singulair. Could I use Benedryl instead?
Dear , This is Dr. S.Tomar from healthcaremagic.com's medical team and I will be your medical adviser for this question. Thank you for sharing your concern with us and showing trust on us. Using allegra or benadryl is not recommended in place of flovent . Flovent is a corticosteroid which is a main treatment therapy in asthma cases . And antihistamines are not recommended medicines for asthma . So consult your healthcare providers and discuss about it and take medicines as prescribed by your doctor not by your pharmacist .
This is my initial response and feel free to contact if you need any further clarification .
Thank you for your question and feel free to contact us further for any query or follow up.
sincerely,
DR.S.TOMAR
