Can Buscopan And Metronidazole Be Taken For Loose Bowels With Stomach Cramps?

Hello. Ive been experiencing stomach cramps and loose bowel 2days from now. I dont know if its food poisoning or just the effect of clindamicin antibiotic that i took. I already stop taking clindamicin but im still experiencing stomach cramps and loose bowel. I have here buscopan (hyoscine) and metronidazole . Is it safe to take this? Or just the buscopan?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

Yes, the prescribed medications can be taken.
The cramps and loose stools are apparently caused by the antibiotic Clindamycin due to over production of a pathogenic bacteria in the intestines known as Clostridium difficille causing diarrhea and cramps.
Metronidazole is found to be effective in the antibiotic Clindamycin induced diarrhea.

You may also take probiotic Sporolac to reduce the frequency of the stools and oral rehydration solution powder to correct the electrolyte imbalances.

Regards.
