Can Butterbur Be Taken While On Amitriptyline, Zoloft And Aleve?

Our 12 year old daughter has had a headache since August 1. We have been seeing the headache specialist in Little Rock, AR at Arkansas Children s Hospital. We were told on Wednesday that Dr. Elser does not believe he can help her anymore. She has not had relief from any medications. She is currently taking 50 mg of Amitriptyline, 50 mg of Zoloft and 600 mg of Aleve 2 times a day. We are considering her taking Butterbur with Feverfew to attempt to find relief from her headache. Will Butterbur have any adverse reactions with the prescription medications she is taking? Thank you - Laura Reeves

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

She needs to consult immediately a neurologist and a neuropsychiatric. She may need to change the medications she is taking. An MRI of the brain may be needed to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
