Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What if any is the benefit of Byetta vs insulin. Byetta is really expensive so why not just go to insulin? Are there more complications from insulin, assuming you watch your diet? Can Byetta cause swelling in the legs and ankles? Am asking for a friend who has no computer and insists that insulin is more difficult to use than Byetta. What say you (I realize in a general way),
Byetta is not insulin, it falls in the class of diabetic drugs called Exenatide. It is used to treat type 2 diabetics.
Few patients have experienced severe side effects like swelling of feet & ankle, feeling tired or having short breaths, difficult or painful urination or no urination.
If you experience such symptoms you need to immediately report to your treating doctor & get medical aid urgently. These are symptoms of developing kidney problems.
Take medications prescribed by your treating doctor. Byetta interacts with other medications so keep your doctors informed about whatever medicines yo have been taking to avoid side effects.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
