Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Bystolic Be Discontinued When Diagnosed With GAD?
I currently take 10mg of Bystolic and 50mg of Pristiq (daily). I ve been doing this since October of 2013. Went into a tail spin and was diagnosed with GAD. My heart rate was recently 86bpm, and my BP was 145/95. I ve read where Pristiq can cause a rise in BP and heart rate. My doctor didn t seem concerned; he just said that I need to lose weight, and my BP should drop as well. What if Pristiq was discontinued? It seems that Bystolic is being used to counter my elevated BP and heart rate, possibly being brought on by Pristiq.
As per my clinical experience, the Pristiq contains Desvenlafaxine which is used widely as an anti-depressant molecule with general anxiety disorders as well. Though not common, serotonin syndrome with high blood pressure and high pulse rate with palpitation are serious ones in certain patients.
The Bystolic contains Nebivolol (5 mg) which is used to control blood pressure in hyperlipidemia, MI and other cardiac conditions. If there was no history of prior cardiac disorder or high blood pressure, that means the use of it in your case is for controlling the ill effects of the Pristiq. Kindly consult your doc for the discontinuation of Bystolic before self decision making.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
