Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
a patient was given levaquin and flagella for colitis with pantoprazole. no pathogen has yet been identified. patient is having considerable muscle aches since starting this regimen and stopped taking levaquin on his own. muscle aches have subsided. he has tolerated cipro in the past. until he undergoes colonoscopy to determine etiology, could cipro be substituted for levaquin under these circumstances? interestingly, patient has no travel history, no history of recreational camping nor has he eaten any wild game in 6 months.
Levoquin and Ciprofloxacine are in the same drug group and they may work almost the same on the infection. Doing a culture will find the best antibiotic which works on it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
