Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
can ciproflxacin be use for cellulitis, I am a type 2 diabetic that is under control with a a scrape on the anterior segment of my lower leg. I have washed it with paroxide, wiped it down with betadine and applied a double antibiotic ointment. It is mildly inflammed.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain Cellulitis is an inflammation of the skin and underlying soft tissues caused due to bacterial infection.. In case of diabetics the severity of infection can be high due to more blood glucose levels and bacteria finds a medium to feed and proliferate..
In your case as it is a scrape with mild inflammation, it might not be cellulitis and just moderate infection and inflammation.. But in case you are diabetic care should be taken to prevent spread of infection..
Ciprofloxacin is a potent antibiotic to treat such infection and you can take it orally.. You should also take anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen or Naproxen.. Clean the area with antiseptic solution and apply steroid ointment and triple antibiotic ointment over it.. You should keep monitoring blood sugar levels and keep it completely under control.. You can also consult a general physician or surgeon in case if there is no improvement or worsening of the condition in a week..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
