Can Clarithromycin And Benadryl Be Taken Together For Rashes In A Child?

Can my 9 year old son take Clarithromycin and Benadryl? He had some minor viral hives before starting the Clarithromycin today, but 3 hrs after taking it, he took a very warm shower, and about 15 minutes after drying off, his hives got much worse. So we thought maybe he could take Benadryl to help, but we are unsure of the drug interaaction. Thank you.

Clarithromycin and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) does not have any major interaction. In usually circumstances, it can be given together without any risk of interactions.
I would recommend you to be careful with doses as your son is still 9 year old. If your son was my patient, I would recommend a dose of 25mg benadryl every 4-6 hours until symptoms last and never exceed a dose of 150mg for a day.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
