Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been prescribed Clonazepam 500mcg to treat anxiety. I was told to take one tablet at night and if that didn t help I could take two a day. I am on my second day and was wondering how long do I take just one tablet before I should feel better. I have been taking Xanax 0.5 for at least ten years and I tried to go off them but after a few weeks I was very shaky and not coping well so my Doctor said to try these
If one tablet isn't doing it for you then you can up the dose already, its effect should be already visible. However I must confess switching from xanax to clonazepam doesn't make that much sense to me, they belong to the same class, benzodiazepines, have similar efficacy and side effects and with long term use both develop tolerance (don't achieve initial effect for the same dose). In someone who is predicted to need long term treatment for anxiety antidepressants are more indicated. Their effect needs some weeks (so in those first weeks can be given together with a benzodiazepine) but is more stable in time, talk with your doctor about their use.
I hope to have been of help.
