Can CoQ10 Be Taken With Statin And Metformin?

I am an insulin dependent diabetic type 2, A1C 6.8 to 7, essencially without symtoms. Have been moderately stable for 18 years, all other blood chemistry within the norms. Question: I still take 10mg of statin and have considered the addition of CoQ10 (100 mg daily). I also take Metformin. I am concerned about contraindicated interactions with this drug. Your suggestion would be appreciated. My background is Chemistry and engineering.

Hi, thanks for your query.

Answer: Yes, CoQ10 can be taken with statins and Metformin.

Evidence shows that statins might decrease the levels of CoQ10, the significance of which has been termed as minor. So, it is generally OK to take the above-mentioned medications together.

As you have mentioned that you are insulin-dependent type 2 diabetic, I would draw your attention to the possible increased glucose-lowering effects of insulin when combined with Metformin.

Hope this helps. And please feel free to contact me for any further explanation.
