Can Colimix Cause Greenish Stool With Foul Smell In Children?

Dear Doctor, My 3 yr old daughter had an acute diarrhoea along with fever and vomit, refuse to eat or drink. Her doctor said she had gassy problem and prescribed her with probiotic for 5 days, colimix and fever med. Her fever is gone in one day, she started to eat again but her poo is still greenish and smells like a rotten egg. Is it caused by colimix? How long does she need to consume colimix? Thanks doctor. Worried mom.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Green stool can be due to increased frequency of bowel movements.

Normally as stool passes through the intestines, the bile in the contents changes and causes the stool to go from green to brown before it exits.
When bowel movements occur frequently this change does not have the time to occur so this is the likely reason for the green colour.

As her stool frequency starts to go back to normal, it should improve.

I hope this helps
