Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I had a cortisone injection on 7-15-15 in the dorsum of my left foot. It was 1cc of triamcinolone, and 2cc of lidocaine. Within 75 days after the injection I was admitted into the hospital overnight for suspected cellulitis. I was given Keflex 500mg, and released. In December of 2015 I was diagnosed with lymphedema in my left foot, the dorsum is very swollen. I am devastated and have been suffering immensley. Am seeing a lymphedema specialist soon for other possible testing. This is a nightmare. I had no problems before the injection of cortisone. Do you believe that the cortison injection could have triggered lymphedema.
You have a history of Lymphedema & now you are diagnosed to have cellulitis. Sometimes, steroid injections manifest side effects like water retention, swelling & even low resistance to infection.
In my opinion, get physically examined, assessed & treated for Cellulitis. You will have to go through a few blood tests, culture & X-Ray. You will be treated with antibiotics or surgery depending upon the severity of the pathology detected.
Keep the foot elevated & at rest, take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain. Wear well-fitting shoes & maintain good hygiene.
Take food that is good for immunity (Almonds, vitamin C, spinach, yogurt, garlic/ginger, papaya, etc).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
