Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Cymbalta, Tramadol, Sulfasalazine And Prednisone Be Taken Together?
I am currently taking tramadol 50 mg 2 of 3 times per day for pain and sulfasalazine 500 mg 4 of 2 times per day. I also take off and on prednisone 10 mg for copd. I do suffer at times with depression. I thought of asking my doctor about trying Cymbalta. I have been told tramadol is not good for long term and or not recommended in high dose. I understand Cymbalta can help with both pain and depression. I also often have trouble sleeping and lack of energy. It appears that cymbalta can help with all of these ailments. My question is can Cymbalta be taken with tramadol, sulfasalazine and prednisone.
Hi dear. Welcome to HealthCareMagic. Thanks for asking here. I have read your questions and understood your concerns.
About the medicines you have taken, here some interactions that may happen: 1. Cymbalta & tramadol: cymbalta will increase the level of tramadol. Both of them increase serotonin levels. Should be avoided or use alternative drug. 2. Sulfasalazine & Prednisone could increase the toxicity of the other, increase the risk of GI ulceration. Prednisone also decreases level of sulfasalazine. 3. Cymbalta & sulfasalazine; either increase toxicity of the other. Increase risk of GI bleeding. Cymbalta inhibit serotonin uptake by platelets.
Using many medicines at the same time can cause many negative side effects and interactions. You should use medicines wisely. Please contact your treating doctor about your medical condition and maybe you need dosage adjustment and drug modifications. Be aware do not stop cymbalta suddenly since it can cause withdrawal syndrome that may harm you.
I hope this can help you clarified tour worries. If there's anything else you need to know, please let me know and I'd be glad to discuss it in HealthCareMagic. I wish you get better soon. Take care.
