Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Biactin for a UTI and also have an RX for Diflucan for a yeast infection which is the normal course for me after taking the antibiotic for an extended time, Started a 10 day course of the anti biotic this morning. After several days on the antibiotic...4-6 days I will start with a yeast infection. How do you take the Diflucan while still taking the antibiotic ?
Biaxin is composed of 'Clarithromycin', which is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. Diflucan is composed of 'Fluconazole', which is an antifungal medication used for treatment of a number of fungal infections. There could be a serious interaction happening between the two medications if taken together. Fluconazole oral will increase the level or effect of Clarithromycin oral by altering drug metabolism. Also, both can increase causing a dangerous abnormal heart rhythm. Hence, regular monitoring by your doctor might be necessary if the medication is taken together or use of alternate options would be ideal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S.
