Can Dilaudid Be Taken While Suffering From Lactose Intolerance?

I am in the hospital after having colon surgery. The surgeon is changing my pain medication from robaxin to dilaudid. I have read that dilaudid has lactose in it among other ingredients that I do not know. Do you think is a safe med to take if you lactose intolerant and cope, as well as saracoidosis and a previous heart problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, Dilaudid contains lactose and it is not advisable for you if you have lactose intolerance. It would be better if you discuss alternate treatment options with your doctor such as Vicodin that doesn't contain lactose.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
