Can Diltiazem ER Be Taken In Place Of Metoprolol ER?
Cardiologist changing from Metoprolol ER 100mg to Diltiazem ER 180. Am RN modicum knowledge DDI and want side effects comparison and DDI. Reading them, Diltiazem seems to have similar side effects, but more DDI. What are the stomach effects Diltiazem? Post aortic valve replacement 2 years. Thank you
According to medscape professsional drug checker, it can cause nausea in 3%, vomiting in 2%, constipation in 2% to 4% and diarrhea can occur in 1-2%.
There are other effects that can sometimes occur but like the above effects mentioned, side effects tend to occur in the minority and not in the majority of persons who use the medication.
If you do have issues when the medication is used then you should let your doctor know so that it can be changed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
General & Family Physician
