Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mother was taking diltiazem in capsule form 240 mg. She now has issues with swallowing and cannot swallow the capsules. Her doctor gave her a prescription for diltiazem tablets (120 mg 2x per day). She was hoping to be able to crush the pills, however the bottle indicates that the pills should not be crushed. Is there any form of this medication that she can take, perhaps liquid? Otherwise, what would be the repercussion if she crushed the tablets?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. Diltiazem when crushed forms a white crystalline powder & is bitter to taste so most probably she may not be consumed in proper dosage/ the characters of medicine is also known to change, So better avoid taking it in crushed form.Consult your doctor for use of any other form ( Lyophilised form ). thanks
