Can Diphenoxylate-Atropine Be Taken Regularly By An Elderly Person?

MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR SURGERY FOR LEAKING BOWLS. HE WENT INTO SEPTIC SHOCK AND THEY ENDED UP REMOVING A LARGE PORTION OF HIS BOWLS AND HIS COLON. SENCE HE HAS BEEN HOME HE HAD A DIVERTICULITES AND DIARRHEA. HE WAS GOING 20 TO 25 TIMES A DAY. THE DOC PUT HIM ON DIPHEN/APTRO 2.5 MG 3 TIMES A DAY. NO HE ONLY HAS A BOWL MOVMENT AFTER EATING. HE TRIED TO GO WITH ONLY 1 PILL A DAY BUT THE DIARRHEA COMES RIGHT BACK. HOW LONG CAN HE BE ON THE DIPHEN/APTRO? he is 75 years old

Yes, he can. It is a anti-histaminic plus anti cholinergic drug combination. It is simply reduce all body secretion. Main side effect is dryness of mouth.
