Can Dipyridamole Be Taken To Inhibit Blood Clot Formation In The Brain?

I had a TI stroke as I had a gastric cancer stomach bleed and was put on plavix by the brain doctor but my oncologist said not to take it as she did not want my stomach to bleed again. Can I take dipyridamole oral pills to stop clots from forming in my brain?

Hi,

It's a difficult situation where on one side a person gets a blood clot and then gets a bleed so giving the drug for thinning blood is not straightforward.

However, as a general rule, we do use Plavix, though there is a risk of bleeding it can be decreased by using antacid drugs with Plavix.

So it's not without risk, but probably benefit is more here and we can use it with an antacids drug. Sometimes if gastric cancer has more risk then we may not use it.it's always balancing the two and then deciding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
