Can Doxycycline And Amoxicillin Be Taken Together?

Is it okay for my 18-year-old son to take two antibiotics at the same time? One was prescribed for acne, the other for a sinus infection. The first one is Doxycycline, 100 mg. The second is Amoxicillin with Clavulanate Potassium, 875/125 mg.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. Since taking doxycycline and amoxicillin has got drug drug interaction i.e. taken together reduces the effectiveness of amoxicillin [ by pharmacodynamic antagonism] thus ask your doctor to prescribe alternatives that do not interact but make sure not to stop the medicine without first talking to your doctor.
