Can Duromine Be Taken For Weight Loss While Having Hypothyroidism?

Hi, my name is Megan. I am currently taking thyroxine 50 micrograms, I have been taking it consistently for a few years now, and my dosage has never changed. I get my TSH levels checked every 3 months and they always come back good.I am a 26 year old female currently weighing 120kg, and am 172cm tall. I am gluten and lactose intolerant, and eat a pescetarian diet as my purine levels were a bit elevated a while back. I have hypothyroidism and hyperparathroidism. The medications I take are thyroxine 50 micrograms, metformin 100mg (my doctor prescribed this for weight loss 6 months ago but I have not lost any weight loss yet), antidepressants (citalopram 100mg) and I take 10,000 microunits of liquid vitamin D for my parathyroid. I have been trying again and again to lose weight but am struggling to maintain the motivation. I have researched duromine for weight loss, and would like to give this a try. I read that if your hypothyroidism is steady and the medication is the right level for you, then you can take duromine for weight loss if it is monitored and taken appropriately. I believe that starting the duromine when I start my next health kick will show me the results to keep me motivated to allow me to mae some new healthier habits. Is it worth asking my doctor about this? Or will she not even consider me as I am on thyroxine?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I still recommend you to try more natural weight loss ways such exercise and diet than to use fentermine while suffering from thyroid.
They put adrenal gland at excess stress and worsen thyroid too.
Also you are taking thyroxine you should take liothyronine because it is not advisable if you take T4 medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Megan I suggest you not to taje diromine while on thyroxine for thyroid ptoblems but continue with more natural ways such diet and exercise.
It puts your adrenal and thyroid in excess stress.
Also if you decide to use it you should change from thyroxine to liothyronine and have a good stabilised thyroid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
