Can Effexor And Lamictal Be Taken While Suffering From Cold?
I am on venlafaxine (Effexor) and Lamotrigene (Lamictal) and currently have a bald cold--runny nose, aching eyes and nose, and fever. Are there any safe medicines that I can take? Thank you very much for your time and service. God bless you. Can t Can,t afford-- low social security. Will try another site. Thank you.
It is very good that you are checking to make sure that any medications that you use with your traditional medications do not cause an interaction. Most cough medications may contain a cough suppressant, decongestant and anti histamine. Some may have a mucolytic to help break up the mucus.
Dextromethorphan is the most common cough suppressant though codeine is also sometimes used. Phenylephrine and pseudoephedrine are the most common decongestants. Dextromethorphan interacts seriously with venlafaxine so they should not be used together. There is also a mild interaction between venlafaxine and codeine but other than this there is no interaction.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
