Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My psychiatrist changed my meds from Wellbutrin 150mg x1 per day along with Zoloft 150mg x1 per day to Effexor 75mg x1 per day along with the Zoloft 150mg per day. I ve read that the Effexor may add to the serotonin levels. What dosage of the Zoloft would you suggest taking with the Effexor? Thanks in advance. Michelle
Taking Zoloft along with Effexor can increase the risk of a serious condition called the 'serotonin syndrome' which is characterized by confusion, seizure, hallucination, increased blood pressure/heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, blurred vision, muscle stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
In its severe form, it may result in coma and even death. Your treating doctor will reduce the dose of Zoloft or may prescribe an alternate effective medicine to depression.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
