Can Eliquis Be Taken After An Artificial Aortic Valve Placement?
My friend just received an artificial aortic valve (cow) and was on warfran and plavic as blood thinners but another doctor took him off warfran and prescribed eloquis instead. I saw an ad on tv stating you should not take eloquis if you have an artificial heart valve. Is this true?
Since safety and efficacy of 'blood thinner' Eliquis drug have not been established in patients with an artificial aortic valve hence as per FDA recommendations Eliquis should not be taken by patients with artificial aortic valves.
According to FDA, the most serious risk associated with Eliquis is bleeding, including life-threatening and fatal bleeding.
The only available and proven effective 'blood thinner' for carriers artificial aortic valves is Warfarin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
