Can Estrogen Patch Cause Abdominal Pain, Indigestion, Bloating And Foul-smelling Stools?
Diagnosed with perimenopause 2 weeks ago (FSH was 60) and my doctor started me on estrogen patch right away, my problem right now is I m having sharp pain in my right upper quadrant that radiates to the back and indigestion and I feel like I m having a lot of gas and worst is my stool smells like burnt rubber. Could this be the side effects of estrogen patch because most of my symptoms started when I started using hormone replacement therapy? Thanks
Increased estrogen levels can cause water retention, which can in turn cause bloating. Estrogen is not the only cause of menopause related bloating. During and after menopause, bloating can also be related to changes in the gastrointestinal tract. Avoid foods that cause bloating like lentils, peas, beans. Eating smaller portions of meals, and regular exercise can help. Drugs that reduce bloating like simethicone can also be used thrice a day after meals.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
